How to Live a Healthier Lifestyle

How many times have you told yourself, “Tomorrow is the day I start eating right and exercising?”

And how many tomorrows come with no change?

It’s safe to say that most people want to live a healthy lifestyle.  But, for many, it’s a challenge. Things from food addiction to stress eating to lack of time make a healthy lifestyle more of a dream or something on the bottom of a to-do list than a reality.

But, it doesn’t have to be that way.  You can make the change to healthy living.  Just take a look at how to do it.

Physical Activity

Moderate exercise every day, something as simple as a 30-minute walk, can lower your risk of heart problems.  And, as studies have shown, vigorous physical activity every day can add four years to your life.

Simply put, get moving every day and get your heart rate up.

Healthy Diet

You want a diet that is rich in whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and lean proteins.  Try to avoid trans fats and saturated fat at all costs. Instead, focus on eating monounsaturated fats.   These are the fats found in olive oil, nuts, and avocados.

Monounsaturated fats actually help with weight loss, and they also help reduce the risk of heart disease.

Quit Smoking

It doesn’t matter if you own Omaha real estate or a Florida timeshare, the commercials about the dangers of smoking are shown by every cable provider in the country.  Don’t smoke. It’s that simple.

Have an Active Social Life

Studies have linked loneliness to high cholesterol.  Besides, lack of friendships and lead to depression.  If you want to live a long, healthy life, make sure that you are active socially—even if it’s challenging or scary.  You have to put yourself out there and make friends.

Challenge Your Thinking

It’s just as important to exercise your mind as it is your body.  Doing things like Sudoku puzzles or crossword puzzles instead of staring at social media or the television can sharpen your mind.  In fact, studies show that puzzles can make your brain act as if it were 10 years younger.

As you get older, a sharp mind will go a long way. And feeling 10 years younger is never a bad thing.  Especially if all it takes is a few crossword puzzles and some math problems.

An Active Sex Life

This may not seem like something that should be on a list of how to live a healthy life.  But, the fact is, regular sex helps with sleep, lowers blood pressure, boosts immunity, and protects your heart.

And good sex can burn as many calories as running for 30 minutes!  So, if you miss that morning jog, double up on the nighttime fun, and you will be on your way to a healthy life.

Conclusion

Anything worth it takes work.  And no one said a lifestyle change is easy.  But that doesn’t mean it’s out of reach. You can easily make better choices, work on disciplining yourself, and adjusting your schedule.

You only get one trip on this earth, don’t cut it short by choosing to live an unhealthy life.  Instead, do the work, make the changes, and start to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of eating right and exercising.  You will undoubtedly see a difference.
