There are many toys on the market today that can promote various skills for children. These are good investments, as kids will be able to grow while they are having fun. Kids’ building blocks are among the more traditional toys that children enjoy playing with while also supporting their abilities. In a world where video games and computers rule, it is nice to still provide your children with basic toys that they can use to foster many different skill sets.

A child’s creativity can be heightened when they are allowed to play with building blocks. Since there are many different blocks in various shapes and sizes, the kids can build a variety of structures. They may choose to create a castle, store, or house. Some block sets also come with wheels so that those using them to create cars. This would allow the children to put together an entire town made solely from blocks.

This creativity allowed with kids’ building blocks also promotes divergent problem solving skills. These abilities allow children to find multiple ways to solve a problem. With blocks, there is always more than one way to build whatever it is the child wants to create. For example, he may choose to use one large rectangle block for the side of a building, or two smaller square shapes. If presented with the request to building a tower, there are many different ways the blocks can be placed to create the structure.

Building blocks shared amongst children can also support cooperative play. Kids need to be able to work together even when playing. Block sets typically come with enough pieces for two or three children to have enough to build whatever their hearts desire. Compiling the blocks into one stack to create a large object is beneficial for the kids, as they will learn that teamwork is important to reach a common goal.

Physical abilities such as motor skills and eye-hand coordination are also encouraged by building blocks. Motor skills are necessary in order to pick the blocks and place them together to create an object. Fine motor skills are typically what are being worked here. However, gross motor skills will also come into play when it is time to clean up the blocks and place them back where they belong. Eye-hand coordination is also endorsed, as the children need to be able to put the blocks where they need to go when building with blocks.

As you can see, many different skills can be promoted with the use of kids’ building blocks. Many children love to sit down in the floor with a pile of blocks and let their imaginations run wild. What they do not know is that they are supported a wide variety of abilities that are need to be endorse as they children grow up.
