The 2014 Winter Olympics are well on their way but Sochi isn’t the only place you’ll need to bundle up. It’s winter in many major cities but snow and plummeting temperatures shouldn’t keep a girl from looking her best. Here are some trends that will keep you warm, stylish and showing your Olympic spirit.
1. Chunky, colorful knits
Taking inspiration from Ralph Lauren’s outfits from the Opening ceremonies, those ugly holiday sweaters don’t always have to be well, ugly. From Nordic patterns to Aspen-inspired cashmere, these knits will keep you warm and let you show off your style.
2. Winter whites
From cool icy grays to warm beige, winter white now covers a beautiful spectrum of colors that will leave you feeling lady like and warm. Try layering various shades and different textures for a grown-up look. A silk cami under a cashmere sweater is a sure fire way to keep the heat in. Paired with black accessories or metallic accents, you’ll looked polished and ready.
3. Duffel coat
Classic duffel coats in fire engine red were worn by team Canada and Germany used duffel buttons as accents for their winter coats as well. A duffel coat is a winter wardrobe staple that can be dressed up or dressed down. Look for bright colors that bring a pop to an otherwise dreary winter day and pair with flat riding boots for a cool, equestrian look.
4. Fur trapper hat
The Czechs were right on track with their fur trapper hats. We’ve already seen Olivia Palermo rocking this look on the streets of Manhattan and we have a feeling a hat like this can conquer even the worst winter blizzards. If hats aren’t your thing, try fur as a hood accent or as trim on gloves.
Whatever your style, don’t let winter keep you from feeling hot. Stay warm but most importantly, stay stylish.
