Clothes: When you are doing yoga do not wear tight clothes. Instead make sure they are loose-fitting and comfortable. Mats: When doing yoga it is more common to use the yoga mat or what some call a sticky mat. Considering when you are exercising it is only common to start sweating. If you are just standing on a wooden floor then the chances are high that eventually you will slip and hurt yourself. If you have the mat down then it will help you keep the proper traction so there will not be any slipping around. It is also nice to have some cushion under your feet while doing yoga. The yoga mats are very inexpensive and usually cost around 20 dollars. Equipment that is Optional
If you find yourself doing a yoga style called Iyengar then you will be happy to hear this is going to teach you poses but, the proper alignment as well. It is important that you are careful when first starting out. The body is going to take some time for getting in the proper alignment and this is why it is usually recommended that props are used. If the yoga is being done in a studio then the props are provided but, if the exercises are being done in the comfort of your home then you might think about purchasing some.
Blankets: If you are going to a studio for yoga classes then you will be relieved to know they have blankets on hand for everyone to use. It is usually recommended that you grab at least two. They are good for elevating parts of the body higher than others so the exercises will give the proper workout. Another great thing about having a blanket is when you are done working out then you will do some relaxation exercises. At this time you have usually worked up a sweat and will start to chill, just grab the blanket and wrap it around you so you can warm up.
Blocks: Another form of a prop is using the blocks. These are usually used when you are required to bend over but, not actually touch the floor.
Straps: The reason you would use a strap is for the bound poses. This would be if the hands cannot reach each other or if you need to grab your feet but just cannot get all the way there.
